pop3 server changes to ‘localhost’ (Outlook 5 and 6)

Seems after about 2 hours of running the PC my incoming POP3 address changes to “Localhost” in my email config.
It then places my “incoming server name” next to my login name preceded by a “/”
I dont have this problem on my other PC using most of the same hardware as this one.Os on that PC is WinME and a Duron 900 with 640 MB ram
I also have Office 2000 Pro installed.
It does this when using Outlook within Office 2000 as well,but only on my Win2k Install.
I do have PCCILLIN installed but had this issue prior to antivirus program install.

Then tell me why I had this issue prior to installing PCcillin?
I just recently reinstalled my antivirus to see if maybe I had a virus.
And it doesnt seem to affect my WinME system which is almost identical to my 2K system in both hardware and software.

do you have any other AV program installed? Any AV program that does email scanning does the same thing. You also need to have the email scanning enabled.

The reason for it changing is the AV software acts as a local proxy server and collects the mail so it can scan it for viruses.

I’m not sure as to the “AV” you speak of.
But I only have Pccillin installed that is capable of scaning email,to the best of my knowledge.
Today at lunch,after posting here, I uninstalled Pccillin and made sure “Pop3 scan” was not in my task manager and yet I still had to change my server back when I got home just a few minutes ago.
Pccillin may be part of the problem but I dont think it is the only part.

No I do not.
And just for knowledge,I just had to reset it again.
Still working the bugs out.
Just did a quick scan of my registry and no mention of Tren or Pccillin after uninstall.

I believe Zone Alarm makes these changes when you install it, so that it can monitor your e:mails for viruses etc. Do you / have you installed that?

I had Zonealarm at one time a few months ago.
But as I stated about Pccillin,I had these issues even before Zonealarm or Pccillin was installed.
I have, since introducing this topic, deleted both Pc and Zone and I have had no more problems.
I figure the hell with Firewall and Antivirus(Norton is out of the QUESTION,Biggest piece of @#$!% on earth in my book.) if it is going to be that much of a pain in the @#$%%#.
I dont keep anything on my PC I cannot replace anyways and I have “right click,format C:” down to a fine art.

Should this problem arise again without me installing either of these programs I will report here.
I am due for a format anyways.And I have a 4 day weekend
I do it twice a year kinda like spring cleaning..
