We are installing the new Power-Pivot on 4-5 PC’s in the company. One of the first we did is presenting an error. Not much out there with a Bing search, so I’m hoping for some ideas here.

    Client OS: WinXP Pro SP3
    Office 2007 Pro Plus
    Excel 2010 (side-by-side with Excel 2007) – version: 14.0.6029.1000
    MS SQL Server 2012 Power-Pivot for Excel (32-bit) – version: 11.0.2100.60
Prerequisites: .NET Framework 4 & Visual Studio 2010 Tools for Office Runtime x86 – version: 10.0.31119

    The error is:
Embedded Analysis Services Engine: Could not open Embedded PowerPivot Data

Note: It works fine on the developer’s PC (running WinXP Pro SP3).

I have the French interface so this is just a good guess. Years ago I had a similar problem, nonetheless check with the developer, have the developer open the pivot table, then go to the options tab, and under pivot table options there is a data options tab and make sure the third box is checked. In 2010, it should say something close to «refresh the data on opening” and then save, then try and open it. I do not have the English interface to quote the correct label. I hope this helps. Thanks, I’ll pass that on!

After much troubleshooting this morning, we found that it’s a permissions issue of some sort. When we add the user to the local Administrators security group, the problem goes away. Not an ideal option, but it’ll work until we find a way to move them back to the preferred Users group.
Any ideas on what to check?
