Is there a way to have Outlook send arriving e-mails directly to a printer?

AskWoody LoungerNovember 7, 2001 at 4:09 am #550585You should be able to easily set up a rule to print each message on arrival.
Open your Rules Wizard (on your Tools menu) and create a new rule which checks email as it arrives. Have Outlook apply the rule to all messages (or limit it according to the choices presented). On the next screen, select “Print it” to have all messages print when received.
This works on Outlook 2002 and I am reasonably sure that you should be able to create the same rule within 97.
Hope this helps.

AskWoody LoungerNovember 7, 2001 at 2:21 pm #550670Actually, I believe that the “Print it” rule won’t work on any version of Outlook prior to 2000 (that’s what Outlook told me when I created that rule).
Is there any way to make Outlook print all messages after they are sent? I didn’t see a “Print it” option in my 2000, but maybe it’s a new feature for 2002?
Thanks,
Becky -

AskWoody LoungerNovember 13, 2001 at 4:38 pm #550711I have found the solution. Outlook 97 can not do the job itself but if you use caprint it will work great!!

AskWoody LoungerNovember 13, 2001 at 2:37 pm #551714Using the rule wizard without doing any special “behind the scenes” tweaking, Outlook 2000 only prints the e-mail (no attachments).
I have a question regarding the special utility that you bought. Does it have the ability to print sent emails as well as received? I have an attorney that might be willing to pay $30 for that feature.
Thank you,
Becky -

AskWoody LoungerNovember 13, 2001 at 4:38 pm #551718I haven’t tried to print sent messages. I recomend that you download the 30 day trial at http://www.ornic.com
Caprint is only one out of about ten programs that they have that works within Outllook rule feature.

AskWoody LoungerNovember 13, 2001 at 4:36 pm #551748one thing to double check on the custom actions – some (i thought all) are broken in Outlook2002. ExLife still works, but i can’t remember if it does the print feature. (I haven’t reinstalled it yet after my last format)
also – the signature programs there (one in exlife and exsign) don’t work with wordmail and actually result in blank mail being sent.

AskWoody LoungerNovember 13, 2001 at 10:38 pm #551853Hi Elcid,
As Leif and Becky have said, Outlook 2000 will not print email attachments automatically
. On the print dialogue box there is an option to print attachments when you print the email, but I don’t believe that this is turned on by default. So without doing a little bit of coding somewhere along the line, you are probably better off with caprint to take care of your needs.
Cheers,

AskWoody LoungerNovember 21, 2001 at 4:00 am #553453Hi Melissa,
I think where the difference lies is that they are trying to get the print to happen automatically by the use of a rule, setup within the Rules Wizard. This option is not available within Outlook 2000 or earlier versions.
Silverback is quite correct though, there is an option in the print setup dialogue box which allows you to print attachments with the emails, and this can be set as default. With this set, whether you print via the print button, the file menu, or the right mouse click, the attachments will still print with your email.
Unfortunately as the option to print is not within the Rules Wizard, none of these is of any use to Elcid in solving his problem. Thankfully, this is one feature that has been added to Outlook 2002.
By the way, good to talk to a fellow West Australian on the Lounge.
Cheers,

AskWoody PlusMarch 27, 2006 at 4:31 pm #1006909Barry,
Can you explain how to use the feature in Outlook 2002? I need to print all incoming e-mails with a pdf attachment via the rules wizard. I need the rule wizard to work between the hours of 6PM and 8AM, Monday – Friday and also on the weekends. During the normal Monday-Friday workday, 8AM – 6PM, I do NOT want the rule in place.I have played around with the rules wizard and I don’t believe I will be able to get the time / date parameters to work, but I have not been even able to get the pdf attachment to print—only the e-mail itself. I was searching the lounge and found your post…hope you can help. THANKS.
