• print from explorer and show folder size

I have a two part request for help:
I need to get a printout of the list of files on a hard drive. From explorer, I cannot find that option. Does anyone know how to do that? 2) is there a way to also show the sizes of directories/folders while in explorer, not just the sizes of individual files? I need to do some maintenance on a C drive and would like to review the list of folders and files and their sizes with the user. Thank you!

      Hi Denise:

For the answer to your first question, see this post.

As to determining the size of a folder from Explorer, right click the folder itself & choose “Properties” (or select the folder & press Alt+Enter). You will see the file size. Also, if you open a folder in the left pane of Explorer AND do not select anything in the right pane (alternatively select EVERYTHING in the right pane), the total will be given in the status bar at the bottom of the right pane. If you can’t see the status bar, go to View/Status bar to turn it on.

      Hope this helps.

For a graphic view of relative folder sizes and such, try TreeSize which comes in both freeware and Pro versions.

Old DOS method that I have used:

          c:dir *.* /s > c_drive.txt

This should, if I remember correctly, give you a listing of all files on your hard drive, organized into their directories, and stuff it all into a text file that you can print out or otherwise manipulate. Do this before and after your maintenance work, and you should easily be able to compare the two files for changes.

This is a freeware program that will do exactly what you’re talking about. I’ve used it plenty of times and it is definitely worth the price smile
