I was wondering if you new of a way to print from multiple documents all at once? I have a bunch of papers to print, so I was wondering if there was any way to open them all as separate Word documents but print them as a group so I don

AskWoody LoungerSeptember 27, 2005 at 5:52 pm #975696As far as I know, there is no built-in way to print several documents in one step. However, Word’s print function is integrated into Windows Explorer. If you right-click a .doc file in a Windows Explorer or My Computer window, it should present the option to Print. This opens Word in the background, prints the document, and closes it again. I think this works with multiple selected files, but I’ve never tried it.
Alternatively, one could pen a macro that prints all open documents, one after the next…

AskWoody_MVPSeptember 27, 2005 at 7:17 pm #975715Yes, one can select one or MORE files and then right click a singe file and select print.
Heads-up, the file(s) will be sent to the “Default” printer, so if you have more than one printer make sure that the one you want to use is set to default.

In older versions (up to Word 95), the maximum number of documents was 9 (I think), but I haven’t checked since then.

AskWoody LoungerOctober 3, 2005 at 5:03 pm #976747I find it interesting that you can print multiple files from the File Open menu in Word. We have been trying to do just that for a year and cannot select a bunch files and then print them using the right button. It just doesn’t print. However, if we select the files and use the ToolsPrint option, it works. I’m just curious if anyone knows how we can get the right click option to work as well.

AskWoody LoungerOctober 10, 2005 at 11:12 pm #978144Sorry for the delay in replying, but I’ve been offline for a week. When I select more than one file from the File/Open dialog box (by using Ctrl+click, so that I don’t deselect any), I can print more than one file. However, I first get a message (1 for each file I’ve selected) that says I must close the dialog box before printing. If I use the Tools/Print option, I don’t get that message. It appears to me that this is a bug in Word, but I haven’t had a chance to check it out. Do you get the same behavior that I’m describing, or does printing just not work when you right click?
