• Print Word document to Adobe

I’m running Word 2000 and Adobe 8 (old but solid and meets my needs).
When I track changes in Word the changed text is in color. When I print the file to a color printer the print-out is in color.
I have Adobe installed and I can print files to Adobe just fine, except…when I print a Word file with colored changes the colors go away.
Is there an Adobe setting I’ missing?
Is there a Word setting I’m missing?

Thanks in advance for your time.

Don’t have an answer except to observe that when I try it here with Word 2003/Adobe 8, the colors are preserved, as you’d expect. It’s not likely that the problem lies with Word settings.

Is the issue confined only to Word documents with track changes? If you print to PDF a Word document containing a colored graphic, is the color retained in the PDF?

If you want to examine conversion settings in Adobe 8, you can find them under Edit > Preferences > General to display a Preferences dialog. In the left panel select Convert to PDF and in the right panel, select Microsoft Office Word, then click the Edit Settings button. In the ensuing Settings dialog, click on the Edit button to get to some more advanced settings. But I can’t see anything there that would set a color Word document to convert to black and white.

I have had EXACTLY the same problem. When I save a Word file to pdf, sometimes the track changes show in colour in the pdf, sometimes they don’t. I can’t work out why this happens or what makes it so flakey. When the colour refuses to show in the pdf, I try rebooting, I try changing the settings, I try almost anything I can, but I just end up reloading Word 2003 and pdf’ing from there – its so frustrating! The next day all will be fine – even on the same document.
