Printer dialog box missing

My ability to select a printer is no longer possible since the print dialog box no longer pops up when I select print. This happens in all programs. I have selected all possible options on all printers with no success. I can go to the list of printers and select one, but this is a pain. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Is this problem new? Have you tried running sfc /scannow from an Admin Command Prompt?

This problem is on a friends desktop, so I get confusing info on some items. I ran system file checker and there were no corrupt files. She is not sure when this problem started.

If the problem is recent, do a system restore to a date earlier than its occurrence.

You could try going into Devices and Printers and ensure the printer is set as Default by right clicking on its icon and setting that, but if it’s a Wireless printer then click on the Networked icon.

It should have a green tick next to it.

You can also select Troubleshoot to see if that reports anything amiss.

It is selected as default and troubleshooting doesn’t help. I am really stumped on this one.

If Windows isn’t recognizing the printer as such, then perhaps this MS Fixit may help http://support.microsoft.com/mats/printing_problems/en-gb

I’m not sure if Event Viewer would pick up on the missing dialog box, but it may have related errors which could have caused this.

defrag the harddrive & reboot the PC.
