I have no idea how to describe the problem.
When I print from either the new ver. 6 Firefox or the ver. 6 Thunderbird, I get garbage (except for HTML images/Logos (maybe .jpg.)
    I have Win7 with sp1.
I’ve updated my print drivers for HP 1020; Samsung clp310 and 315.
I can print from Internet Explorer (IE) without problems
I can print from Outlook 2010 without problems.
I can print from all my other applications beyond Office Pro Plus 2010.
But only printing from the updates from FF and TB 5 and 6 are giving me problems; worked fine with the last rendition of 3.x.x Thunderbird.

What make me suspicious is that this all happened after the many updates from Microsoft. But I can’t find anyone in the FF and TB discussion lists who have this problem…if they do they are not talking about it or helping me. There are of course a few other font problems I’m having, but that’s minor to the print problem. When I print a transaction, I need all the information.

I’ve spent more time than I have available for these things, and am consequently having to do work around stuff which is unacceptable.

However, I just printed this page from Firefox, and it came out beautifully on the HP printer…except for the header information giving date and time and link; all garbage.

Does anyone here in the lounge have any clues?

Since you are not having problems with other applications and you’ve updated all your drivers I’d try an uninstall and reinstall FF & TB.

      Hi trescott,
I use ‘Cutepdf’ to make pdf’s occasionally and also had garbled results using FF 5.0.1 even with addons disabled. The makers of Cutepdf sent a ‘fix’ that did not help.
Using IE9 makes a perfect pdf.

As a general troubleshooting step for printing in Firefox, you can use the about:config preferences editor to “reset” your stored printer information. See: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Problems_printing_web_pages

Regarding the header and footer font, check your “Monospace” font setting and, if it isn’t set to Courier New, try that.

orange Firefox button or Tools menu > Options > Content tab, in the Fonts & Colors section, the Advanced button

      Does that help?

This may not help you, but……….

Firefox, of course, does not come with Windows (any version) so you have to install it yourself.
I do this for all my customers, and when I install Firefox from my Utilities CD, I also install the very latest versions of Shockwave and Flash. There are special versions for Non-IE browsers.
Both can be easily found on the web. (I get most things like that, from File Hippo)

That may not help your printing problems but it does help with many web pages.
      Give that a try. Eh?

      Cheers mate!

PS: In general, I’ve had such a hard time printing what I want from web pages, going way back, that I just don’t do that anymore. It’s just NOT worth the hassle.
I put what I want to print on my screen, then tap the ‘Print Scrn’ key on my keyboard to commit that image to the Windows Clipboard. Then I pop up “Photo Filtre” from an icon on my Quick Launch Toolbar, paste the image from the Clipboard to the open screen in PF, where I can crop the image, resize the image if I wish and finally print it out, in the format I wish, to the printer I wish.
I love Flexibility and this process gives me all the flexibility I want.

Hi guys sorry to hijack someone else’s thread but my problem is very similar, using thunderbird, I have the latest 6.0.2 version, it has suddenly started to give me the garbage below above the email every time I wish to print an email. I think it started in version 6 but it may have been version 5 the only way I can get around it is to forward the email then highlight and “cut” the rubbish at the top so I can print the rest. I have looked at the various settings and can’t see anything that I can untick to get rid of it.
If I uninstall thunderbird and reinstall it do all my emails come back or are they gone forever? Any help much appreciated, Pete. 🙂
PS If there is anything that I shouldn’t be showing in this please let me know. 🙂

For some reason the garbage doesn’t seem to be showing, lets try again. Weird it’s still not showing but if I reply with quote it does show so hopefully others can read it also.

I have had so much trouble with web pages not printing properly that unless they are specifically capable of showing a printer-friendly version, I download them as PDF files and print from PDF. However, if both Firefox and Thunderbird are experiencing issues, the user data and profiles of both programs are suspect. I would just do a complete uninstall of both programs (using RevoUninstaller Free — there’s also a portable version — ) (BACK UP YOUR EMAIL MESSAGES AND ATTACHMENTS FIRST!) and do full scale reinstalls from downloaded installers. This will clean out old profile data and user data, and most of the time this restores the new installations to full functionality. Then, import your mail back into Thunderbird, and any customizing or add-ons back into Firefox, and you are ready to go.

Backup and restore your Thunderbird and Firefox profiles for free using Moz Backup (download here .). It will safely export and later import everything you would need. Of course, if there is something wrong with the backed up profiles, there might still be issues. But I have never had this type of issue which survived beyond a clean reinstall and profile restoration.
