After installing 21H2, I lost access to one of my printers, the older of the two that I have.  Printer appears in the drop-down list, but if I try to print to it, nothing happens.  Printer is not listed in Settings, so I can’t uninstall it and then reinstall it.  Can still print to the newer printer and to Adobe pdf.

How is it connected?  USB or via IP address? What’s the printer?

USB (too old for IP connection).  HP  LaserJet 3055 multifunction.

      Disconnect the printer.
      Then run (win+R):

      printmanagement.msc

There will be listed installed printers. Remove unwanted printed and then try to plug it in again. If it does not appear in the printers list, click the “Add printer” button and try to install properly.

I checked all the hardware connections, but that didn’t seem to help.  But I did find the solution – it appears that I updated the printer driver at about the same time as my 21H2 update, or maybe I had to update the driver because of the 21H2 update.  The printer driver update seemed to rename the printer to HP Print Device UPD PCL 6.  Selecting that enables me to print to the HP LaserJet 3055.  Maybe the upshot of this is that I don’t understand printers real well.  Or maybe older printers (this is only my second HP laser printer since establishing my firm nearly 27 years ago) give new Windows fits.  Thanx for your help.

PCL 6 is the HP generic driver, which seems to be what you get these days. Printer Control Language is the HP printer language and is often supported by other manufacturers.

        cheers, Paul
