Here’s the dilemma: Our office uses Word97 and just received new machines with Win2000 on them. Here’s an example of the problem: If, from Word, we choose to print 2 copies of a 3 page document, it will print pg.1, then 2 copies of pg.2 and two copies of pg.3 – then, it will print pg.1 again and 2 copies of pages 2 and 3. It happens whenever we want to print multiple copies of a multiple page document (the collate option is checked). Does this make sense? And ideas?

AskWoody LoungerOctober 18, 2001 at 1:19 am #547348Not a solution for you I am afraid
, but just letting you know that you are not alone in this.
Our office quite regularly prints up manuals of 30 plus pages and have this same behaviour from our printer. If we need to print 10 copies of the manual, it will print up one copy of page 1, then 10 copies of page2, 10 copies of page 3 etc.
Sent the printer back to be looked at, but that did not fix the problem, so it is obviously something within the software somewhere.
I will be very interested if anyone has experienced this problem and found a solution.
Cheers,

AskWoody LoungerOctober 18, 2001 at 10:22 pm #547544The printer is color laser jet CLJ4500. I have tried drivers for the CLJ4500, 4500PCL, 4500 Windows 2K, Series 4000. I CAN print collated from a Windows 2K computer to an HP 8500 color printer. So, I tried loading those drivers for the other printer. No go.
Yes, these printers are all networked via Novell Netware. Both computers are using Windows 2K. There are several Windows 95 computers in the office, also on the same network, and collated printing works fine to any printer from Windows 95.
We have about 85 printers, and I have not tested this with all of them, but so far it seems we can’t get the right drivers to allow collated printing from Win2K machines to any of the HP4500 printers (we have several). Other printers work fine.

AskWoody LoungerOctober 18, 2001 at 11:33 pm #547564Hi Dave,
Like Melanie, our problem printer is a Hewlett Packard as well, but ours is a HP LaserJet 4Si.
Our work area is a domain network run on Windows 2000 servers and the PC that the printer was connected to was running Windows 2000 as well. We had people using Win98 and Win2000 PC’s who were having the same problems when sending work to this printer. We have now moved the printer to another PC running Win2000, but some of the staff are still reporting the same problems occurring (I haven’t done any printing of manuals for a while, so I haven’t noticed it myself). We have also downloaded the latest drivers from HP and so far no change.
Cheers,

AskWoody_MVPOctober 19, 2001 at 12:38 am #547575Melanie and Barry,
Are this printers connected to print servers or to a workstation? Are the workstations using the same drivers as the ones on the computer that the printer is connected to?
When I was working, we had problems the the different IT people updating the drivers on the Print servers and NOT making them available to us to install on the workstations and had all kinks of problems.

AskWoody LoungerOctober 19, 2001 at 12:47 am #547579Dave,
In my case the printer is connected to a workstation and shared to the rest of the network. I don’t think that different drivers on machines is the problem as we even had problems printing from the workstation that the printer was connected to.
We look after all of our own IT problems, so I don’t think I am ready to blame the IT staff just yet (but I think that is probably the next step
).
Cheers,
