I’ve printed two pages on one page before with a header row repeating at the top. Now I want to go one or two steps further and can’t figure it out! How can I, or is it possible at all, include a header/footer across what really turns out to be two columns. Using the customer header/footer I get the header to add, but it repeats on both pages/columns. I’d like it to print it only once centered over both. Also, how do I remove the page borders that print around the pages? In essence what I’m doing is a Table of Contents for a massive budget document. Next year it will be done in pdf, but for now I’d like to to this without putting it through the printer twice. First as an Excel document and then adding my headers and footers to a separate Word document and sending it through the printer again. Any thoughts are appreciated!

Can’t you link the excel data into word and just print as one word file instead of printing from 2 programs.

I would think you could just copy the range in excel and then paste – link in Word. I think word can print excel sheets easier than excel can print word files.

Yes, I can link it, but it isn’t formatted the way I need to have it done. The object is that I want to be able to sort the file all together and have it then print in two columns. I can’t get the formatting to work correctly using the entire file. In Excel it ends up being six pages long, and three pages printed with two pages per page. I have played with Word, but can’t figure out an easy way to build in flexibility. I don’t want to cut and paste numerous portions of the file! I’m still working on it though! Thanks for your input. Am now working on the angle of using section/column breaks in Word.

You might want to try the Word board. They might have some ideas there.

Maybe I’m missing something, but it sounds like you’re effectively trying to print 2 Columns on A3 in Landscape with a single header stretching across both Columns. How is it then that you are having the same Header occur twice – without using the same piece of paper twice? It may be, of course, that I am inferring a different solution than the one you are actually using. Hope This Helps

That’s what I am trying to do, it is really simple to print two page as columns using the multi page option, but if you put a header or footer on it, it applies to the page, not the paper so you get one for each column. If I move it to Word I lose my sort capabilities. unless I’m missing something! Thanks for your reply

You could try to fake it by moving away from the Custom Header and Aligning (half of) the Text Right and Left as the first Row of each Column. I suspect, however, that idea may get kiboshed by the minimum spacing for the Right and Left Margins. That is, your Header will have an unsightly gap appearing in the middle.

In relation to the Borders, I take it that you’ve already gone into Print Preview Mode and dragged the dotted Margin lines outwards as far as you can in every direction? As you know, in good old Microsoft Knows Best tradition, there is a minimum Margin setting that prevents printing literally to the edge of the Page.

having read about printing more than one colum per page i would suggest as a solution going to http://www.fineprint.com website. a good programme to use and i have used it in the past.
i understand what you want and i have a simular programme where the colum of figures could be 10000 rows long but only 3 colums wide. how dow i split the colum in half and drag it to the top of the page before printing, or using a solution as offered by fineprint.

      Judy,

While reading thru the thread, I think I understand what you’re trying to do and then I think I missed something. Having never tried to do what I think you’re attempting with XP, I’m still not sure.

However, there was an article in one of Allan Wyatt’s Excel tips newsletters a few weeks ago that may help. In that article, he provided several solutions to what I think you’re trying to do. I think the “printer driver” approach is not what you are looking for since it sounds similar to what you can easily achieve but don’t want to (multiple pages on 1 piece of paper but they each have their own Excel hdr/ftr). He also provided a macro that took the contents of several worksheets and created a “printing” worksheet by consolidating the cells from the sheets into 1 place. Since you now have everything on 1 sheet, of course your Excel header and footer for the “printing” worksheet applies to all of the consolidated sheets. Is that what you’re trying to do? Your problem may be a little different but that may give you a starting point.

Thanks for the reponses, guys! All your ideas were much appreciated. I tried looking at Alan Wyatt’s stuff, but I only started getting it a couple of weeks ago and don’t seem to have that one. However, I think we will put this one to rest although I might query Alan on it. I ended up doing a straight copy into Word and with a little bit of work like couple ofo hours, got everything to look the way I want it to look. Repeating header rows etc. by copying rows, etc. It is just so simple to print two pages in Excel, I wish it were as simple to have a header across both pages. But then that didn’t take care of the line issue. I’ve decided that those lines really or the edge of page lines and where you’d cut it if you were to do that, but can’t see anywhere to shut them off! It works in Word with lots of hard work. Just wanted a simple answer! Thanks every so much to each one,,,,
