    Hello,
I sure hope someone can help me with this one. I have been doing some updating on a web site via Front Page. All of the sudden, one of the pages refuses to close. It is stopping me from closing that web as well as closing FP. I have deleted the page every way possible, yet it won’t go away. I’ve renamed the page file, which did nothing. If I delete it from the list of pages, it remains in the window above where the page names appear as you open them. If I delete it from the list of pages, an asterisk appears in the page name in the window above. If I save it, it then reappears in the list of pages. I have isolated it so it won’t publish, but still can’t close the Web or Front Page. I’ve opened other webs and they open and close just fine. I recreated the page using a new page and named it something entirely different and it functions with no problem. Any ideas? I am desperate. I don’t want to close down my computer with Front Page open because I worry I will corrupt either the web or Front Page itself.

I could sure use some help here.

    Thanks,

    Marilyn

From the Help menu, try a “Detect and Repair….”. If this does not work, you could create a new site and then export everything except the troublesome page to the new site. Close the new site (once you’re sure that everything works) and then try to close the original. If the old site still won’t close, go to the Task Manager and End FP from there. At this point, you don’t really care if the old site gets corrupted.

        Thanks John,

I might try that. Seems I have used that before and it didn’t help. But it wasn’t on this problem.

If worse comes to worse, couldn’t I import the published site back into Front Page and name it something new or would I take the chance of the problem following me. I have deleted the file from the remote server, so I would think if I imported it that the corrupt file wouldn’t follow the imported file.

        Thanks,

        Marilyn

Yes, importing from the server is another alternative. If you have deleted the problem page from the server, the import should work.

            Hi John,

Problem resolved. I did try the repair option, but that did nothing. So I decided to reboot my computer. But first I did a Ctrl-Alt-Del to bring up the task pane. And there was Front Page (not responding). So I shut it down there, rebooted and held my breath. And voila, Front Page survived and the file was gone. Couldn’t see it anywhere. So just to make sure, I brought up the remote server pane and on the left in my local files in the pages folder was this pesky file again. So once again I deleted it. Published the web and everything published fine. Went back to the normal view and no pesky file anywhere. And now my web and FP program will close. No damage apparent.
Thank you for your help. It goto me out of panic mode and I used my last brain cell available for the day and I managed to fix the problem.

Glad your problem is resolved, and thanks for posting back. The Windows Task Manager can certainly be a very useful tool when applications misbehave.
