I have had no problem with previous updates but could not update to build 14942. Prior to that I could not install update KB3194496, but managed to do so eventually thanks to a script I ran from a Microsoft site.

I tried a great many different fixes but none worked, so eventually I gave up and ran RefreshWindowsTool.exe, electing to keep my personal files. Now I have Build 14393, and when I run Windows Update I am told no updates are available, so how do I get to Build 14942?

If I use the Media Creation Tool is there any way of knowing what Build I will get?

    Advice would be appreciated.

To get build 14942 you need to be in the fast ring of the Insider Preview Program.

Browni, thanks. I just assumed I had remained in the fast ring. What’s happening now is that when I check for updates none are listed but I am told there were problems installing updates. I have tried using various Fixits but the problem remains.

HELP! I don’t want to be stuck on Build 14393 for ever.

      @ royw

I have the latest build (AFAIK) of Win10 Pro “Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1607 for x64-based Systems (KB3194496)” which installed 30 September 2016. When I run winver it reports “Version 1607 (OS Build 14393.222)”.

What do you see when you run “winver” from an elevated command prompt?

Right-click the Win10 logo then left-click “Command Prompt (Admin)”, type:

      winver

      then press Enter.

      Coochin, version 1607 Build 14393.222.

14393.222 is the latest AU version.

Roy, if you’re still having problems with WU, you can download the ISO for 14931 from the link in my post here.

Browni, thanks a lot. When I searched I didn’t find the link you kindly referred me to.

I tried to create a DVD from the .iso file using ImgBurn, which I’ve had no problem doing before, but it failed due apparently to a “power calibration area error”.
However, I double clicked on the .iso file and then ran setup.exe, and was surprised at how quickly installation of Build 14931 completed. Windows Update is working, and Build 14942 is now downloading, so thanks again.

      Regards, Roy
