I am running Thunderbird 3.1.9 on Vista with all updates.
I am trying to add a new mail account on my new ISP. When I entered my name, e-mail address & password TB immediately filled in incoming server as IMAP, but it needs to be POP3. When I click Manual Setup I get “Incoming server already exists.” I have tried editing it to POP, but got a verification error and cannot proceed.
I now have 2 copies of my new acount showing in “All Folders” (as well as 2 old mail accounts), but the new ones do not show in “Account Settings” and in “Account Actions”, the “Remove Account” option is greyed out so I cannot delete them.
Can anyone help please? Many thanks.

After restarting TB, one of new accounts has disappeared, but other still does not show in Account Settings, and Remove option still unavailable.

You could edit it manually. (This may make things worse)
      1. Tools > Options > Advanced > Config Editor
      2. In the filter enter: mail.server.server
      4. Find the offending IMAP entry and change the offending type from imap to pop3
Now try editing via Account Settings.

      cheers, Paul

Thanks Paul. I did as you suggested, then restarted ThunderBird.
The new account has disappeared, although in “All Folders” I now have 3 little envelopes with padlocks! Can you tell me what they are? Clicking on them gives same results as the valid accounts except that “View Settings” only shows the valid accounts.
“Set as Default” and “Remove Account” are still greyed out.

“All Folders”? I don’t seem to have one of them.

      Hi Paul
The “All Folders” is one of the panes which shows all folders set up in TB.
I have attached a “snap” showing the 3 strange icons, and what shows when I right-click on one of them.
I cannot keep the “Account Actions” menu open when I tyry to snap it, but the “Set ASs Default” and “Remove Account” are greyed and cannot be activated.
      Many thanks.

I found the “All Folders” view.
The 3 icons appear to be corrupt accounts.
In the Config Editor, under mail.server.server, check that the directories listed in Values actually exist.

It may be worth manually removing the config file – after backing it up. Look in the folder specified in mail.root for a file called “prefs.js”. close Thunderbird, rename this file and re-start TB.

      cheers, Paul
