• Problems creating PDF files with images

I have 3 different computers with the same software installed and this problem only occurs on the ThinkPad III tablet.

I download knitting patterns and then reformat them for my visual and processing problems. To do this I open the PDF files in Nitro Reader, extract the text to one file and the images to separate files. I open the text file in NotePad Lite, reformat to something really basic: no columns, no text boxes with asides stuck here and there, and definitely no fancy fonts and colored, fancy backgrounds.

Then I paste the text into LibreOffice Writer, adjust font sizes, bolding, etc. and finally, paste in the images all at the end, so they don’t interrupt the flow of the text.
Finally, I export to a PDF file which is what I work from, either on a computer or in my smartphone.

My problem is that diagrams, but not pictures, get stretched out horizontally when going from LibreOffice to PDF.

I’ve attached a pdf showing the results.

    Has anyone any ideas?

With LibreOffice Writer open, go to Tools > Options > View > Graphics Output, uncheck “Use OpenGL for all rendering.”

Close LibreOffice, restart and try create another doc/export to PDF for a comparison.

        You nailed it! Thank you.

Now I will check my other 2 computers and see what settings they’re using. The tablet is the newest, so I might have missed this step when I installed LibreOffice.

Given that the OpenGL part it uses is your graphics drivers, on noticeably different hardware the drivers are probably different too, so the other computers might not exhibit this problem… it’s possible that they either don’t actually do OpenGL, or the OpenGL works right.

Make sure you are using the latest version of LibreOffice.
Problems in earlier versions are often addressed and not an issue in later versions.

I’ve given up on that strategy because they keep moving or dropping particular font colors I use. On some previous upgrades, the color “azure” wasn’t an option, and I don’t know the RGB values to set it manually. So, since this version does what I want and the files are for my use only, and stay on my computers, I chose to read what an update does and am selective about installing them. If I don’t need the “newer, better, faster”, etc. upgrade, I don’t install it.

Some of the not-current versions have significant vulnerabilities.

I’m using versison 6.2.2.2 (x64). Considering that the newest one is 6.2.5 (x64), I think I’m reasonably safe.

Well, 6.2.2.2 on Windows has the last three vulns still.

6.2.5 is supposed to be only bugfixes on top of that.

I will update, and the posster after you gave me a link to the RGB values for azure.

An internet search can find RGB values. https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-1-d&q=azure+color+rgb+values

… right, I tend to forget that Windows doesn’t usually have rgb.txt …

        $ grep -i azure /usr/share/X11/rgb.txt
        240 255 255 azure
        240 255 255 azure1
        224 238 238 azure2
        193 205 205 azure3
        131 139 139 azure4

Try experimenting with some of the Font Colour palette options and you may find what you want.

I have what I want. Now. The problem is keeping it every time LibreOffice does an update!
