Problems Sharing a Printer

I have a Cannon MG3120 printer attached to my desktop via a usb cable.
I no longer can share this printer with my daughters laptop.
it worked when I was on WIN7 and she was on 8.1 but I cant remember if it worked after we upgraded to 10.
when I try to add the printer to her laptop it detects the printer but when I try to add it I get a 3012 error try again later.

I have gone thru every setting I can find to make sure printer sharing is turned on in both the network and printer settings.

I then hooked the printer to her laptop via the usb and it worked fine.

I also tried setting up a home group but I cant get that to work ether.

any ideas I am about to pull my hair out.

I do not see anything obvious in the event log.
I feel like its something simple that I am overlooking I just cant figure it out.

I remember this happening several times in the early days of Windows 7, trying to install shared printers on Windows XP machines. In every case, the only thing that worked was to install it as a local printer, change its port to (say) LPT1, and use the net use command to map it to the shared device. It always worked when nothing else would.

You might try running the built-in Windows Troubleshooter.

I did try that it found no problems

I don’t see your printer listed in the Microsoft Hardware Compatibility list for Windows 10…

yes I did and it doesn’t show any drivers for WIN10. the funny thing is that it works just fine on both computers with it plugged in via the usb cord.
thanks for the advice I will keep digging and if I find a solution I will post it.
