Since reloading Windows 10 (I wont touch 11), one or more additional programs that I have loaded have seriously affected the behaviour of File Explorer. The faults include:
The inability to edit any entry in the left hand column. If I attempt to do so, the input typing goes crazy and will only accept one or two letters at random. (Editing in the right column is just fine)The icons on my desktop now have random ticks and other symbols appearing and disappearing on them at random.
There are some other strange effects as well but the first mentioned is the most aggravating.

I have seen many articles that describe how to view the ‘extensions’ and ‘add ons’ to web programs such as Windows Explorer but nothing regarding File Explorer.
All assistance to identify the errant program(s) will be appreciated.

AutoRuns64 from Sysinternals should show you what you are looking for. Here is the documentation for AutoRuns.

Is Windows fully patched? I would uninstall everything and then one by one add programs to find which add in is causing your issue. This sounds more like a general issue than an add in. Doing the normal, updating patches, running DISM. and starting from a fresh Windows install and working up might be better than trying to shut off various add in’s to find the broken one.
