    Can someone help me please.

Sometimes when I change formatting in a document eg centering a line, the entire dcument re-formats as central.

I can cancel this by using “UnDo”, which leaves just the line I wanted centered.

This is driving me crackers, and I cannot find a way to ensure that it never happens.

I want to change my system so that any change affects the section selected only. If I want to change a whole document, I’d either select it all (if a short one), or change a style.

    Thanks

    Colin

I haven’t got Word XP but I can mimic this effect in Word 97 by setting the style to ‘automatically update’.

      Colin,

Is this related to post 172662? Click in a paragraph with the Normal style, select Format/Style…, click Modify… and make sure the “Automatically update” check box is unchecked.
If the problem returns after closing and reopening the document, perhaps “Automatically update” is set for the Normal style in the Normal.dot template AND your document is set to automatically load the styles from the template.
In your docunent, select Tools/Templates and add-ins…, and make sure the “Automatically update styles in document” check box is unchecked.
To correct the setting in Normal.dot, you can open it as a document and modify the styles.

        Yes it is linked.

I had acted on the previous posts, but I hadn’t thought to change the Normal.dot file.

I have done so now, so with a bit of luck, this one is finally resolved.

        Thanks for the help again.
