THIS IS NOT A SILLY QUESTION!
The computer at work is Windows98. Microsoft Access stopped working (why?). I have an old Office Professional 2000 original disk that I wanted to install instead. But when I start the install I get warned that the operating system is not able to accept the installation.

    Any ideas?
    Thank you.

What is the exact error message? According to this article, Office 2000 requires Windows 95, 98, NT 4.0 or 2000.

Also, what version of Access was installed on it? And how much free disk space do you have?

Can you use Open Office instead?

I run Office 2000 on vista, and windows Sp1 or Sp2 blocked install and repair of my Office program, tried to gain permissions over there three registry keys that was blocking, managed to sort two of them but couldn’t the third. Sort help from MicrosoftWindows update support, there only answer was buy new Office Program…
My answer put back a Acronis true image backup made prior to the Sp1 update. Problem resolved, Windows update turned OFF

Don’t forget to check the monthly updates, or you may have the opportunity to rebuild your system from scratch in the not too distant future!

Thank you for your reply, however i have Office 2000 Premium which is fully patched with Sp1, Sp2 and Sp3, I rely on Kaspersky Internet Security Anti-Virus for my computers security, my front line defence is Mailwasher, my default browser if FireFox, and have IE and my Trillian chat running in Kaspersky’s Sand Box.
It would take no mre than twenty minutes to restore my whole system from the a selection Acronis True Image back-ups stored off mu computer.
When I brought my first Office suit (32 floopy disks) I owned the program and Microsoft had contractual obligation to fix faults in it. They wouldn’t, they refused, instead Microsoft stole what belonged to me when they released new versions that then stated Gates still owned it.
Anyway i then purchased Office 2000 Premium which does all i need, and though accept your right to express that sort of view, I am not willing in any event to appease the world biggest thief by purchasing another second rate incomplete Office suite when i already have what i need.
