I have a medical program that works fine on my current windows 10 Lenovo laptop. This laptop was originally windows 8 and the program was sucessuflly installed under windows 8. However on a brand new windows 10 machine the install just wont work.

Is there a tool or program that will transfer all the registry files and other files just for this one program to the new machine??? as I can’t use the old install cd just balks.

I know that the program works fine under windows 10 just the install cd refuses to work. Any migration tool that should work for this one program???
    Thanks
    JK

It’s quite possible for the file needed to use the autorun feature of the install is written to be usable on certain versions of Windows. I’ve seen such happen with a few programs and digging further into the CD/DVD contents found another file that allowed running. If there’s a file on the CD/DVD called something like autorun.inf or autorun.ini double-click it to see if it will open in Notepad. If so, note the location of the setup.exe file, usually in a Folder. Go there and double-click that file, sometimes gets things started.

Before you wonder "Am I doing things right," ask "Am I doing the right things?"

Good thought which is the way I managed to get it to work on an install on windows 8
On windows 10 New machine, The setup.exe when clicked this app can’t run on this pc check with manufacturer. If I try another setup.exe outside of the autrun then it circles and the circling just disappears.
I know that I have it running on my thinkpad t440 with windows 8 that was upgraded to version 10 so runs fine under 10.
It is medical manager that basically is not in existence any more.
No way of copying the registry items over with some program that will go find everything???? ie some migration program.
I copied the basic registry over to the new machine but evidentally did not find all of the entries
        any workaround or trick
        Thanks

on a brand new windows 10 machine the install just wont work.

Please provide the name of the program and details of what actually happens when you try to install it, along with the text of any error messages. “It just wont work” doesn’t tell us anything we can use to diagnose the problem.

Copy the installer to the Desktop. Right click and choose Troubleshoot Compatibility. It may give you a solution. Another way is to install a virtual machine, VirtualBox for example, running a compatible OS.

Unfortunately no luck . Doesn’t crash just nothing happens.
Works under VMware with xp loaded. just can’t get it to install under windows 10,
and I guess no way of migrating the program over from the current windows 10 machine.
      Thanks for all your suggestions

If it will run in Win 10 on another machine then it could be conflicting with something you have on this one – have you tried the install in Safe Mode or in a clean boot ?

Eureka I ran the setup in safe mode and it worked like a charm on the new machine and then restarted the machine and works like a charm.
I can’t thank you enough. Brillant
