• Project Summary Task (2000)

I have added the Project Summary Task from Options and have not entered some actuals. However the summary actual duration days are far less than the true actual duration totals (they follow on FS so it is nothing to do with overlapping tasks).

Is there anything I should know about the way project calculates the project summary figures?

(the summary report also shows the total actual as being the amount shown in the summary task rather than the actual total duration taking the start date of the first completed task and the end date of the last completed task)

    Thanks

      Roberta,

A couple of things to review.

First – I am sure you input the project summary task, but to make sure, it’s ID should be zero. If it is not zero, then you input a regular summary task which may be causing you to see a different summary.

Second – You state that the actual duration days are far less then the true actual duration days. Duration and Actual duration are two different values. If no work is complete then the Actual Duration would be less then the Duration. I am not sure I am following your issue. Any chance you are looking at Actual Duration vs Duration? Have you applied % Complete (or ms project calc’d it) on any tasks? I guess I am confused since you said you have not entered actuals but have actual days being calculated which implies some tasks are complete. Is this correct?

Sorry, not trying to confuse matters, just trying to understand what is happening.
