    I am trying to create a template so that docs created from it can be freely edited except for the contents of one table. That will contain two columns with dropdowns for selection of an option and one column with text fields for text input.

    I need editable areas before and after the table.

    So far all efforts have not retricted protection to just the table. I have tried putting it in its own section and that resulted in the section breaks showing End Of Protected Section, but no Start before it and in any case the rest of the document could not be edited.

      You have to insert continuous section breaks above and below the table, and protect only the section with the table.
