• Protecting Custom Dictionary (Word 2000)

I want to know if it is possible to protect a custom dictionary, if I don’t want users to open it and look at it. I want to know what type of precess Word takes to open the custom dictionary. I don’t know if it is possible to encript it, but if I know the process, it may help me protect it.

I want the custom dictionary to open only by Word, not by users.

    Any suggestion

The CUSTOM.DIC file is plain text and can be opened (on my PC it opens by default) in Notepad. Whether you can do something more fancy, I don’t know for sure. One would think with the specialty dictionaries sold as commercial products, that someone must have come up with a system for securing supplemental dictionaries, but perhaps not the one that the user adds to. Perhaps there is an area on MS’ site for dictionary developers?

Can you point out the dictionary dictionary developers link from MS website?

        thank you

Unfortunately, no. I was speculating that there might be one; I have not gone looking for it.
