Question on Google Message regarding our site

We have a WordPress site. When I Google it using the URL (mygoforthegreen.com) I get the message in this attachment; 35796-Capture

The results I get from clicking the “learn more” link in the message and the WordPress support explanations are way above my technical head.

Can a Lounger help me figure out what I do about “robot.txt” to get rid of this message? Or is it even anything to worry about?

In your WordPress admin panel, look for Apperance->Customize and define a title and a tagline for your site.

Thanks, Rui. I checked the admin panel and I think they are already there (see image). Or do I need to re-enter them?

Maybe it was something temporary and Google’s responsibility. I just tried a search and got this:

Rui, sorry been way backed up on my Woody’s check ins! Just saw your post and tried my search again … with the same results you got. Thanks so much! Who knows what caused it but at least it now is corrected. I appreciate your checking and discovering things had changed in the days since I’d checked.

used to stop web robots, rawlers etc from searching your web pages generally for for indexing

Thanks for the informative article, leland. I’ve bookmarked it for further study. Not sure I should do anything re. robots.txt as long as Google is finding our site’s pages, but will try to learn more about it for future needs. Looks like it is something only a knowledgeable web site developer should tackle!

Don’t use robots.txt to stop trawlers et al, it doesn’t stop these if they choose to ignore the file (as stated in that link from Leland. However, it is useful for redirects and other such things. You can look at any site’s robots.txt by going to e.g. http://windowssecrets.com/robots.txt. This will give you some clues about what can go in the file.
