I need to know what updates should be installed onto my desktop windows 7 sp1 x64 home premium, to make it operate as it used to. I have a HP 6000 series desktop. The windows 7sp 1,is original to this January 2009 and desktop, and has been kept up on Group B until the Aug. SEPT.,Oct 2017 massive update confusion????

Patch reliability is unclear, but widespread attacks make patching prudent. Go ahead and patch, but watch out for potential problems. |

If you want to stay in Group B you can:
1. Install the Aug, Sept, and Oct (Oct at DEFCON3-5) security only updates and the latest IE11 CU as listed in AKB2000003. Then handle the rest of the patches from Windows Update in the same way you have done in the past.
OR2. You can follow the algorithm that @MrBrian has laid down here or here and @MrBrian also offers a script he developed to remove unwanted updates.
OR
3. You can consider moving to Group A. I have provided suggestions for how to do that here.

AskWoody LoungerOctober 17, 2017 at 9:16 am #138370Thanks PKCano:, I guess that I haven’t much choice but to let MS into my entire home, in order to maintain my ‘old’ desktop. My version of windows 7 sp1 x64 home premium desktop doesn’t have touch screen program, so my 20 inch monitor is just a standard HD, no frills monitor. No mic or camera programs.
