I have recently been “infected” with the r20.rs6.net adware.  It has apparently messed up my internet access.   My ISP is AT&T, and it normally runs through my secured home network.  But my internet access is not currently working through my network.  I tried running the network troubleshooter but it cannot identify the problem.  However, I can access the internet by opening my Chrome browser.  Settings shows that this access is via “Ethernet 2 Public Network”.  But I have problems with many links within websites and links within emails not connecting.  I know these links are legitimate links.  See attached screen prints.

I did some research and found a software product called SpyHunter5.  I downloaded the software and ran a scan.  The scan listed several hundred “errors” related to the r20.rs6.net that needed to be removed.  I would have to pay for an upgraded version to “remove” the errors.  I am suspicious of the errors found by SpyHunter because I have Malwarebytes Premium running and use Norton Internet Security as my Firewall/antivirus.  Both of these programs run scans daily and neither of them have detected any “errors”.  I have also run scans with SUPERAntispyware, but it too does not find any errors.

I have iphones and Amazon Fire tablets that are still working off wi-fi, but my Canon printer will not print or scan and will not connect to wi-fi.

I have a Dell XPS 8910 with 16Gb ram and a 1Tb Seagate HD.  Running WIN 10 Pro, version 1803, build 17134.345.  I am deliberately behind on updating due to all of the recent concerns about issues with some of the updates.

For a variety of reasons, which I won’t go into now, I do not have a viable backup, or restore point available.

Has anyone had this problem in the past and solved it, or current knowledge of what I can do to get rid of the r20.rs6?

      At least start here:

Look on your iphones and tablets at the name of the network they are connected to.
That should be the name of your network.
Now look at the name of the network your computer is connected to.
That is probably not the same.
Disconnect your WiFi from the network you are currently connected to.
Then choose to connect to the network with the same name as your network.

If you remain concerned about mal-ware after trying @PKCano’s advice (whether it works or not), I’d suggest checking out MajorGeek’s Malware Removal Guide.

They are systematic and give detailed instructions… and they have follow up, should you continue to have problems. They do insist that you follow their instructions, rather than improvise, if you want follow-up help… and you won’t know until you go through all the steps. Step 1 is backing up.

Sometimes, it is easier to do a clean install.

For future reference, really look into developing and using your own regular back up system. Making a drive image to restore from (if you know it is mal-ware free) really simplifies coping with malware or updating problems, because it is fairly quick to restore to that good image and move on.

I not sure how much this can be of help, but ‘R20.rs6.net’ is used by Constant Contact in their e-mails. Its purpose is for tracking which link a human clicks in the email and redirecting to that encoded URL, they are not using secured HTTP for the service.

Out of curiosity, what specific kinds of errors did SpyHunter5 claim?
