Some iPhones are restarting… Mine doesn’t and I run all beta versions. Currently iOS 17.1b3.

There is no harm done to the iPhones (you conserve battery At best you are loosing Alarm rings.
I think this is due to some background apps (Facebook, Instagram, TikTok..) hogging memory.. so the iPhone has to shut down for some time.

No need to wait. Security and other features worth the update to iOS 17.

Agreed. I never upgrade the OS (phone or computer) on or close to launch date.

Why the rush? Let others experience the possible bugs and problems first. And personally I don’t find the new features in 17 attractive or useful to me anyway.

My iPhone 13 / SE / XR are still on iOS 16.7.1. I will not upgrade to 17 until 17.2 or 17.3 at the earliest.

About the security content of iOS 17.0.3

In terms of security updates, iOS 16.7.1 and iOS 17.0.3 both fix the same vulnerabilities (CVE-2023-42824 / CVE-2023-5217).

So I am definitely not “4 updates behind” in terms of security updates. And as I said before I don’t currently care about any new features in iOS 17. So for me there is NO NEED to upgrade to iOS 17 any time soon.

I did the same last year when iOS 16 was released. I stayed on iOS 15.7.1 with my iPhones (haven’t yet gotten the iPhone 13 at that time and still using the XR as my main iPhone) for a while before upgrading to 16 (I believe it was iOS 16.2.x when I finally upgraded.).

I applaud Apple for allowing those of us who do not want to upgrade to the latest iOS right away to stay on an older version and still continuing to patch that old version with security updates (for a while, at least, I know it is not going to last).

James Bond…Ditto.  My situation also.  Why the rush if we’re current on 16 with the latest security updates and you don’t need nor want the new 17 features.

I have no idea from where you based the claim “Apple will stop signing iOS 16.x.x after the release of iOS 17.1” from, but the recent release of iOS 16.7.2 shows quite clearly your claim is simply not true, at least for quite a while.

Anyway, I think I have made my position quite clear : That no matter what you and others who support “upgrading to iOS 17 as soon as possible” might say, I am not going to do that. I AM GOING TO stay on iOS 16.7.2 on my iPhone 13 and SE 2 for at least a few more weeks. We will just have to agree to disagree on this matter.

Not really…if you have an iPhone 13 as James Bond and I do.  There’s the original 17.0 followed by bug fixes and one security update.  17.01 was largely a security fix replicated in 16.7.1 which Mr. Bond and I both have. 17.02 and 17.03 were, I believe, mainly for iPhone 15 models.  So, there remains no urgency for iPhone 13 users.

17.0.2 and 17.0.3 :

Stopping signing doesn’t mean stopping security updates. Stopping signing means no way to downgrade from 17.1 to 16.x
