Sometimes I accidently resize my windows taskbar or open too many items and windows combines all the like items together into one item in the taskbar. For examples it combines all the Internet Explorer windows into the same icon that pops up with the individual items.

If I go back and resize the task bar to hold all the items, is there a way to re-expand the items so that each of the Internet Explorer (or other) item shows up as its own icon?

    Thanks!!!

You can prevent accidental resizing of the task bar by right-clicking an empty part of the task bar and selecting “Lock the task bar” from the popup menu.

The algorithm used by Windows to determine whether like items should be grouped is not entirely consistent – I too have noticed that it doesn’t always ungroup icons even though it would be possible. You can turn off “Group similar taskbar buttons” in the Properties of the task bar entirely, or you can turn it off, then on again. (I just live with it, it doesn’t bother me much).
