I am the one having trouble with a mouse on my windows 11 22H2 desktop computer. Can anyone recommend a mouse that is nearly full size that works all the time on their windows 11 22H2 desktop computer? The same mouse seems to work pretty well on our laptop computers, but not on my desktop computer. I’m not sure how to solve this problem. I’m also not sure I just want to start buying several mice and see which one works the best.

AskWoody PlusAugust 17, 2023 at 8:58 pm #2581719I had a decent mouse that worked fine on Win 10 and still does on other machines. It was goofy on Win 11 when I installed on this machine. I replaced it with a Dell mouse I had laying around as a test and it works fine for over a year. Never really explored the issue but found it weird.

AskWoody MVPAugust 18, 2023 at 3:31 am #2581763How is the mouse malfunctioning on the desktop? Is it wireless or corded? What kind of surface are you using under it?
There is something going on that is preventing it from working as it should, and without knowing what that is, there is no way to predict what other mouse would work for you. Any mouse that works in any version of Windows should work just as well in Win 11 22H2. If it doesn’t, well… why doesn’t it? It is possible that the power saving strategies are a bit different, and some USB devices have issues with dev-sleep, but it could also be something else.
If you wanted to, though, you could buy a new mouse from someplace that has a free return policy if the new one does not work any better.

AskWoody PlusAugust 18, 2023 at 8:49 am #2581800As I said in my first post some time ago on this topic, windows does not always highlight the icons that are on the desktop, and without that highlighting, the program that you want to start cannot be started from the desktop. This happens every time I login to my desktop, and someone earlier mentioned that they had the same problem until they switched to an older mouse and that older mouse is still working with windows 11 after 2 years. It seems like there are some mice that windows 11 does not work well with, and I don’t know why. This version of windows is the first version where I have had this problem with my computer mouse. It never happened in windows 10, 7, etc. And that is not the only problem that I have seen with windows 11 on my desktop. There is also a problem with some sounds. Sometimes the sounds, like connecting a usb device, can be heard, but at other times I don’t hear them at all. I noticed it quickly on a small program that I created using autohotkey that reminds me to get out of my computer chair and walk for a short time every hour. Before windows 11, the reminder would pop up and I would hear a distinct beep, but not with windows 11. I had to adjust the program so that it would generate that distinct beep in another way, and that seems to work. I probably need to mention these audio problems in another thread, and yes, I have double checked my sound volume settings, which I usually don’t have to do very often, because windows has it’s default settings, and those have been good enough for me until now.
