This is one of the settings I’ve done to give me the old Windows 10 full right mouse click menu in Windows 11 so you don’t have to constantly click on “see more”

Add this registry key to your computer.

Tested on Windows 11 22H2, 23H2 and 23H2. Survives the upgrade to 24H2

If you don’t like to make changes to the registry yourself, you can use the program Winaeor Tweaker to make this change.  It can also make other changes related to Windows 11 and other versions of Windows.

        Hey Bill,

Do you know whether or not winaero has the tweak that makes windows 11 file explorer folders look like they did in windows 10? I’ve never used 3rd party apps like that but did find independant regedits like the one OP posted about – and i found one that got my old folders back….but….it does not work on 24h2! Does winaero have this tweak – only updated to work on 24h2?
        Thanks

Thank you for posting these solutions, Susan and Bill!  I’m with you, Susan – totally fed up with constantly having to click on “See more”!

Just hold down the “Shift” key when right clicking. You’ll get the full context menu.

Add this registry key to your computer.

      Hi Susan:

      Thanks for that tip.

For Win 11 Pro users, is there an equivalent setting in the Local Group Policy Editor that restores the full context menu?

Thank you very much for this solution! It is one of the tweaks I implemented immediately after my work computer was re-imaged from Windows 10 to Windows 11 (23H2).

Now if only there was a solution to change the size of the taskbar as the registry tweak no longer works, changing the system display scaling is not a viable solution, and I’m not allowed to install third party software like StartAllBack. It’s such a waste of space that the taskbar is so tall in Windows 11. In Windows 10, I always set it to use small icons so the taskbar took up very little space.

Also wish there was a solution to change the rounded corners on everything in Windows 11 back to square corners. But typical of Microsoft to change things (change for the sake of change) as well as then remove options so there is no way to change them back anymore (to how they were in previous Windows versions).

You are, gladly, correct in noticing that this quality of life regedit does indeed still hold in this 24h2 update Susan. I was soooo grateful for that!!!
However, there is another of these tweaks that did not survive, aargh. Maybe you have some thoughts on this?

The other tweak I’d used on 23h2 is the one that makes windows 11 file explorer folders look like windows 10. Now, it flat out does not work.

Is it true that no method of regediting is even possible to get that hack, or one like it, to work on 24h2? If not, will it be possible for Prudent Patchers like yourself to help us out with a tweak that will make that right again?

Forgetting, for the moment, about making our folders look like they did on windows 10, I’m sure you know of this workaround.

It is a pain but i can go to control panel, in category view, hit the up arrow, click open a folder there – and that useless toolbar will be gone! – and with my black folder background, i can clearly see the navigation arrows! I can also use the ribbon to get rid of the left side navigation tree that i do not use, as well as access folder options and adjust the view. BUT, to have this folder view, you have to reopen a folder in this manner every. single. time! I’m having to leave my most used folders open on the taskbar.

Though the folders do not ‘look like’ windows 10, the view is just a good for my needs. Since this control panel workaround does exist in 24h2, can someone cool like you use that to create a regedit or whatever – so that we can click open any folder and have it look this way? Without having to go through control panel each time? Best remedy of course would be a 24h2 updated registry tweak – but afaik, that’s not possible.

I got my original explorer and your context menu regedit from Major Geeks but I do not see a new updated version of the explorer patch there today 🙁

      Help?

Thank you for the post Susan. Hoping the new year sparks your brain and expands your imagination!

Not sure I know what you mean?  Keep in mind there are always tools like Start 11 that makes life easier as well.
