References question (Access 2000 SR1)

Hi there all

I have an Access program that I wrote and I have set some references (eg: to Excel, Outlook, Acrobat Distiller, etc).

Problem:
Now when I take it to another computer, not all the references I need are set.

Question(s):
1) Using VBA, how can I check that these references are set or not, and
2) Set the references if they need to be set?

Replies

If the references aren’t set, are they MISSING? If so, then the files you referenced don’t exist on the other machine or are in different folders. If they don’t exist, you can’t set a reference to them. There have been rather lengthy discussions on checking references both in Access and in VB/VBA/.Net, so you might want to do a Lounge Search in both forums to see if there’s any techniques there that might be useful to you. Also check your on-line help for the IsBroken property and you find some example code that might help.

Thanks for the reply.

Basically, my program is going to be distributed to a number of our offices and the references should exist (if they installed Office and Acrobat correctly), but they will not neccessarily have been set as they most definitely will not have used a database with this combination of set references.

I’ll do a Lounge search on the matter, thanks for the tip.

If you’re distributing the database, the references are part of that database, whether any other database on the target machine has ever used them or not. Your problem is to make sure those references can be located on the target machines.
