    G’day Folks,

    The first problem is that I need to delete a corrupt folder with 2710 corrupt files in my Microsoft Office Outlook 2007 (MO Outlook 2007)

    Attempting to delete the folder comes up with this error
    “Cannot delete this folder. Right Click the folder, and then dick Properties to check your permissions for the folder. See the folder owner or your administrator to change your permissions.”
    Did this however in MO Outlook 2007 there is no tab or option to change permissions.

    Attempting to delete any one of the 2710 messages bring up this error “The message interface has returned an unknown error. If the problem persists, restart Outlook”

    The second problem is that I need to delete a corrupt folder with unknown corrupt files in my Microsoft Office Outlook 98 (MO Outlook 98)

    “scanpst” options did not fix (repair) either and I still cannot delete the folder or files. In MO Outlook 98 the folder does not display any files however I suspect that there are about 800 to 1200 files in the folder.

    is there a utility that will allow me to delete these corrupt folders ?

    Regards

      Is the mail server Exchange, POP or IMAP?
      Have you checked permissions on the PST file? Explorer, right click, Properties > Security.

      cheers, Paul

        Thanks Paul T,

        POP and yes I have checked permissions.

        Seems most or the majority to Utilities attempt to look for deleted messages and folders which I do not need.
        All I need is a utility program that loads the PST file and allows for deleting email client folders and or files that are corrupted.
        I tried a few and they don’t allow for any form of deletion of corrupt folders or files.

        Thanks RolandJS and Calimanco however as Paul T pointed out I need a PST email client repair.

      If all within-Windows attempts fail. if you’re certain about deleting pesky folders, create and boot a usb or dvd Puppy Linux and use its file manager to delete any pesky folder. Puppy Linux does not care about Windows programs and their data directory associations, so be sure before deletions.

      Roland, I think the issue is with Outlook folders, not Windows ones.

      cheers, Paul

        I totally forgot Outlook has one giant file containing all of the related folders.

      Unlocker will delete any file or folder, protected or not.

      Note that your AV program may flag it because of the way it works, but it is safe to install.

      What does scanpst show? This is normally the go to tool, but often needs to be run multiple times.

      cheers, Paul

      Hi Paul T,

      scanpst keeps telling me that it has repaired the errors (have run this 5 times now) however the corrupt folder is still not repaired nor accessible.
      scanpst gives no other detail

      Assuming you have a copy of the PST, I’d keep running scanpst until it stops saying it has fixed things.

        At the stage you are at, I’d be inclined to create a new Outlook mail file (I think you will need to create a new Outlook account to do this), then when you are happy it is working, copy across only the valid files/folders. Then you can say goodbye to the corrupt one.

      There is another way to deal with the corrupted folder. If you have a lot of folders, it will take a while, but it will totally eliminate the problem and start you off with a clean setup.

      * Create another PST file.
      * Create folders (including sub-folders) in the new PST file for each of the folders (and sub-folders) which are in the old PST file.
      * Move all of your email from each folder in the old PST file to the corresponding folder in the new PST file.
      * Set Outlook to use the new PST file rather than the old as the default.
      * Exit Outlook.
      * Delete the old PST file.

      I think it’s good to start totally clean and fresh every now and then, in order to get rid of any problems associated with the old setup.
