Hi All
I have my users enter data in a Shared Workbook. Is there a way that I can prevent the users from turning off the Sharing. I thought it could be done by removing the command from the menu? Any help would be appreciated and thanks!

AskWoody LoungerMarch 5, 2004 at 7:04 am #794829Customizations to toolbars and menus are user-level settings, not workbook-level settings. You would have to write code that disables the Share Workbook… menu option when the workbook is activated, and enables it when the workbook is deactivated. But users with a bit of knowledge of VBA could easily circumvent this.
Do you really need the workbook to be shared? I have only heard negative things about it – it is a source of wrokbook corruption.

Hans is right – I speak from experience. Sharing does lead to wrokbook problems. The sharing option keeps a log of changes and bloats the file, slowing things down, especially when loading it across a network. We eventually removed Sharing from many Excel files in my organization. Can you arrange for the users to use the file one at a time? Excel does pop up a little question dialog when the file is already open, with one option to notify the “new” user when the current user is done.
