I could use some help removing sub-folders from Outlook 2016.

I have been using Outlook (Microsoft Office Home and Business 2016) for more than five years.

Over time I have managed to create unwanted sub-folders in my Inbox and Trash folders and have been unsuccessful in removing any of them.

The sub-folders also appear when I login directly to my account at my email service provider.

    I have tried:

    • Removing the sub-folders directly from Outlook while the computer is on and off line,
    • Removing the sub-folders by deleting them on our email service’s website directly and reopening Outlook,
    • Taking the computer hosting Outlook offline and then deleting the sub folders in Outlook; logging into the mail server using a different computer (one that does not have Outlook setup) and deleting the sub-folders; then reconnecting the computer hosting Outlook to the internet and opening Outlook.

In each case the sub-folders reappear.

Any thoughts on how to get rid of the unwanted Outlook sub-folders?

Unsubscribe from IMAP folders (same as last year 😉):

If the above method of unsubscribing IMAP folders does not work check to make sure you do not have any other Clients (Phones, Tablet PCs) that have the folders on them as well.  iPhones will by default setup sub folders  sometimes that then replicate to the server depending on the IMAP Mail and server setting on the Client device. Ran into this quite a few times.

      Good Luck.

It appears that unsubscribing from the IMAP folders is working.

      Thanks all for your help.
