In Excel you can fill empty cells with something as long as you have data in some cells in your worksheet. Is there a way to do the same thing in Word tables? I can’t seem to find a way.

The problem is we have about 250 pages of tables with part numbers & prices. For a category of parts, they want the prices we now have to be changed to “TBD”. Since the prices are all different, we can’t globally replace. I thought we could just wipe out the cell contents we need to replace and replace nothing with TBD. But I don’t know how to do it — I even tried ^w for white space. Thanks for any suggestions.

Word doesn’t work that way. You can copy TBD to the clipboard, then select a bunch of cells and paste. You can use Ctrl+click to select non-contiguous cells, even in multiple tables. The cells don’t need to be empty – they will be overwritten when you paste.

An alternative would be to write a macro to populate empty cells.

thanks a lot for the info. I didn’t realize you could paste into table cells that were non-contiguous; that will help a lot.
