Report footer in multi col page (Access 2000)

I have a pretty simple report, that has multiple detail columns (2), structured down then across. The column is defined as 8cm wide; neither the detail band nor the report footer have controls wider than that. If the last page doesn’t fill the first column, then the report footer appears in the first column. If the last page fills the first column and starts the second column, then the report footer doesn’t appear in the column, but rather generates an extra page that just has the report footer. But it would fit in the second column.
How do I make the report footer appear in the second column, rather than on its own page?

The report header and footer, like the page header and footer, stretches (or rather, can stretch) across the entire width of the page, they are not confined to a single column. So it cannot be displayed in the second column. You can simulate a report footer in the last column as follows:
– Open the report in design view.
– Activate the Sorting and Grouping window.
– Click in the first empty row and enter =1 in the Field/Expression column (it’s just a dummy expression).
– If there are sorting and/or grouping levels above it, drag the new level to the top (using the grey button on the left)
– Set the Group Footer for the dummy level to Yes.
– Move all controls from the report footer to the new group footer.
– Turn off the report footer or set its height to 0.

Ahhh nice trick. A grouping level, but not based on a field. Brilliant!

Much thanks from me too! Also works in Access ’97. This issue was threatening the rest of my weekend.

Now onward to my next “to-do”.
