• Require password entry on wake from hibernation

I would like to require a password entry on ‘wake from hibernate’ every time.

Start up and wake from Sleep both require a password but I don’t see anywhere to set that up for hibernate.

Is there anyway to do this?   Win10 version 1903, 64bit

    Thanks,

Have you been able to open Advanced Power Settings for your current power plan?
Many computers can still enable a power-on password option in the BIOS set-up program.

You don’t say if you have W10 Pro or Home (might be worth adding to your signature?).  If you have Pro, there is a setting in Group Policy.  Open the GP Editor (gpedit.msc) and go to User Configuration/Administrative Templates/System/Power Management, and you will see a setting for “Prompt for password on resume from hibernate/suspend”.  Double-click it and Enable.  If you have Home, it can be done via a registry edit.  Open the registry editor (regedit.exe) and go to HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\System.  Create a subkey under System (if it doesn’t already exist) called Power.  Within Power, create a new DWORD called PromptPasswordOnResume, and set it to 1.  Then close the registry editor and restart.  As usual, be very careful when editing the registry.

Looks good in theory, but tried it on my PC and could not make it work.

      Thanks,

There is no separate option for requiring a password on resuming from hibernation as opposed to sleep. By default, users are required to sign in when Windows 10 wakes from sleep or hibernation:

To help secure your PC, Windows requires users to sign in when it wakes from sleep or hibernate by default.

It’s worth pointing out that removing the password requirement while resuming from wake up will also prevent Windows 10 from requiring a password after resuming from hibernation.

I think that if you try hibernating then resuming you’ll find that a password is requested.
