Folks: See the image below please.

Every time my WIN 10 Pro restarts for, say, one of those regular Windows updates the Acronis “program” appears when the machine finishes. But when I then immediately shut the computer down I get normal start up when I power back on.

If this program (?) was ever installed it would have been uninstalled by my Revo Uninstaller Pro long ago. I cannot for the life of me find where this thing “lives”. If it was a stealth payload from another program installation, I cannot think which.

I don’t have a lot of extras beyond the standard browser, MS Office and Acrobat Pro. Thanks for taking a look and any sleuthing tips will be much appreciated.

I would install it, then uninstall it the regular way – don’t use revo.

If it was a stealth payload from another program installation, I cannot think which.

Look at Windows task manager ,Startup apps, search for Acronis app and remove/disable/uninstall Acronis.

“But when I then immediately shut the computer down I get normal start up when I power back on.”

Seems to indicate that it is not a startup item.  When Acronis is running, fire up Task Manager and look for it in the list of Processes.  If found,  right-click on it and select Properties.  That should tell you where the executable is located.  If you don’t see it in Processes, go to Details and look for it again.  Also, look in Task Scheduler for a task scheduled to run at startup.

Is there an Acronis Rescue disk in your CD drive?

What happens if you let it run ?  Or perhaps let it do a system report?  The output may shed some light on where it is hiding.

Secondly: does this happen if you initiate the restart?  If so, does it fail to happen when you do a shutdown followed by a start?  A difference in behaviour between restart and shut down>start suggests to me something to do with fast startup being enabled.

When you see that again, don’t restart or shutdown.

      Download Belarc Advisor http://www.belarc.com
Scroll down to software versions and usage
Look for Acronis in the list
On the left, you will see at least one marker (mine are in blue) that if you hover on it will show you information on it.
You might also see another marker (mine are in orange(?)) that if you hover on it will let you know if its running.

EDIT: If I remember correctly, at one time, clicking on the marker next to the item used to bring me to the location or noted the location: I just tried that but it doesn’t apply anymore.
Also when that happens again, type Acronis True Image into the Type here to search box and see if it shows you the location.
