Has anyone used, or have any information about, Restore-It 6? I found it advertised here for $14.95, but I’m a little suspicious. Thanks,

i know nothing about restore-it 6, but then i’m happy in my ignorance.

i would not use any backup product unless i knew something about the software manufacturer and the product had a wide custoner base.
too low of a price is usually a warning sign.

Back when I was looking for a backup program for doing overnight SELECTED file backup, I’m pretty sure I passed this one by, Phil. My only reason was (unlike the previous responder) not because they are unknown to me but because of the business of making a backup in a hidden partition on the SAME drive. Too risky for me. I was looking for something to do nightly “file level” backup of email, bookmarks, docs, etc. and settled on NTI BackUp Now ( NTI Software – Best Ultimate CD & DVD Burning software ). At the time I bought my copy, they had a less expensive version that did only file level backup, not imaging, so that’s what I bought.

As you also know from other threads, many of us here in The Lounge are now using Acronis TrueImage for full-partition imaging ( hard drive image backup software ). I’d wager that by now you’ve already taken a look. Good luck in your choices.

Thanks for the replies. I missed that part about a hidden partition on the same drive. Really strange that it will back up to a CD or DVD, yet not another drive. I may also consider Stomp, which took over Backup Exec. I stopped using it on my Win98 because of the 4 gig limit of FAT 32. (Hmmm, I forgot to ask what the file system will be in my new XP.) I will get True Image, though. I’m just looking around for the best price.

I found a good price for a download at newegg, but want to check out the web site first.
        Thanks again.

That’s not a bad price, Phil.

          Hi Phil,

I use BackupMyPC as an alternate to TrueImage and in the past (before large removeable media) to create a portable copy of data on floppys or zip disks. I have always found it to be reliable and easy to use. As far as I know, it has no limitations when used with XP.

Take a look at NovaBack as well, Phil. I’ve used it for years and it backs up to all sorts of media.
