Hi group.  I’ve used the create image (windows 7) function to make a system image.  Can someone help me with specific, detailed instructions on how to restore from that image?  I’ve googled and the sequences are unclear, never matching the options I see on the screen.  Thanks in advance, John Bridges

Are you trying to restore a single file or two? Whole machine? Something else?

      cheers, Paul

p.s. I have no experience with Windows backup as I only ever use 3rd party apps. These are generally easier to use and more flexible than Windows backup. I suggest you get one of the free 3rd party backup products (EaseUs ToDo, Aomei Backupper, Macrium Reflect – MR is the least easy to use IMO) and create a new image. Then restore / recovery is relatively simple.

I agree that the tutorials over on sevenforums  https://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/675-system-image-recovery.html are most helpful.

If you have created a Windows repair disk, you should be able to boot from that and restore your system from a saved Windows image file that you created with the Windows 7 image utility. I have done that a few times, and it has always worked reliably for me.

However I would recommend moving to a 3rd party utility such as Macrium Reflect Free that is currently supported and very user friendly. My take is that MS is working to deprecate their own image utility.
