• right click disabled (ie 6)

I was using google search and went to an entry google provided. As I went thru the site – I decided to go back and did a right click.
I got a dialog box that said it was from Microsoft that said “Right Click Disabled”.
Since I always use right click for back – it stopped me in my tracks. I panicked and was afraid something had taken over my ie 6 installation so I got out of ie6 and restarted it. I checked all of the internet settings and could find nothing that said anything about disabling right clicks.

I tried again and the right click worked.

My assumption is that a web site did something to affect my ie6 settings and I don’t want that happening. I run Norton System works as well as Zone Alarm and have everything pretty well tied down. I have Active x killed.

Does anyone know what setting could have been compromised and how to keep a web site from doing that again.

If push came to shove I can probably find which site did it by looking in history. If I find out I will post.

    Thanks

    Tom

The designer of a web page can decide to disable the right mouse button, but it will only be for that page. There is probably nothing to worry about.

“Right-Click Disabled” is one of the options open to sites that want to prevent images or code being downloaded (for re-use elsewhere on the internet). Unless the site specifies its own name, the message box will display the default – which is Microsoft Internet Explorer. The disabling was done by a script running on the page from the site that you visited. The script then remained in your cache. I suspect that if you disabled scripting for that site, you would only be shown a very degraded version of the relevant web page. For future reference: ALT + [arrow key] will take you backwards or forwards – as will the arrows in the IE menu bar (unless your customisations have removed them). HTH
