Patch reliability is unclear. Unless you have an immediate, pressing need to install a specific patch, don't do it. |
If I right click the Start menu, I can not access the following functions: Event Viewer, Device Manager, Disk Management, Computer Management, Windows Power Shell, Task Manager, and File Explorer. I have run sfc /scannow but with no effect. Looking online, there are various suggestions but none seem to work. Does anyone have any good ideas please? And my USB ports do not seem to work either!
Although it’s an old fix (from early Windows 10, nine years ago), I would try:
If re-copying the WinX folder doesn’t solve the problem, there is probably an obsolete registry entry pointing to a shell extension. You can track it down with this little jewel: http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/shexview.html
Sort by manufacturer and then disable all the non-Microsoft entries. Restart Windows Explorer (ctrl-e in the program) and see if your right-click works on something like
Control Panel[Device Manager].Then just re-enable them one at a time (or in small groups) and ctrl-e to restart Windows Explorer each time. Test each time to be sure your links are still working. Eventually you’ll find the culprit. You can then use the program to locate the CLSID in the registry and delete or disable it. Done and done! Good luck — hope it works for you!
Brilliant – thank you very much. 10/15 minutes of disabling individual extensions in a logical order fixed this very easily. Very happy!
