right mouse click pause

I have a problem, that with win 2000 / IE 5.5, the right
mouse click consistently (and with ALL our machines here ~10)pauses about 5 seconds before the menu appears. Has anyone seen this? Can you help? Thanks much!

I think that it is a Win2K issue, I am running IE5.01 and get the same thing. Interestingly enough, if you reduce your color settings from True color 32-bit to 256 colors it (along with all the other menus) does speed up and you loose the neat fade in/out effect, but not really enough to make a big difference.

I’m running IE5.5 on W2K here, 32-bit colour and no discernable delay. (I do have hardware acceleration set to minimum, though.)
Is this only in IE you get a problem – right_mousing on a hyperlink, for example?

BTW – I’m highly suspicious of the effect using ‘Personal Menus’ and ‘Most frequent commands’ has – have you tried fiddling with those settings?

We don’t get this delay with any other application than IE 5.5 (netscape, word, etc… are fine). The delay is constant whether right clicking on a hyperlink or elsewhere in the page, though the menu is obviously different. I’m not sure where ‘personal menus’ and ‘most frequent commands’ are, but am willing to test this. Thanks much for your help!

‘Use Personalized Menus’ is on the Taskbar and Start Menu Properties window – where you select Show clock etc.

‘Most frequent..’ actually only applies in Office, I think. Right_mouse on toolbar then Customize|Options

I think there was a discussion about customizing the r_m menu somewhere on the forum – I’ll see if I can locate it.

I did a quick search at MS and the only thing I managed to trawl up was a reference to IE3 in Windows 3.1 !
However, it referred to an interaction with Diamond Stealth video cards – a very long shot I know, but with Thomas’s reference to display properties…..
