I remember this used to happen on some installations of Windows 7 and Windows 2008 R2 Server after installing Service Pack 1. The manual process of repairing in those cases involved removing the corrupted registry entries and importing the tasks back from a known working computer with the same operating system and version installed.

Which is why you should always have a recent disk image before doing anything major–like upgrading your OS. Think Acronis True Image. I use a boot CD to make and restore mine outrside of Windows.

Happy to report the RepairTasks utility work a treat – automates the whole repair process with just a few mouse clicks.

Make sure you also download a copy of the default Win7 Tasks (Windows7 Tasks.zip) from the website – just in case the repair utility needs to replace any corrupted files.

The utility can also be used to health check any Win7 Task Scheduler Library (Scan only) to ensure all the configured Tasks are correctly setup.
