The subject line says it all. I can use WordArt and rotate text, but all I want is the plain font as a vertical up the left side of the page with horizontal text on the page. I imagine I’ll have to convert the text to art in some way, but am stuck.

    Thank you!

You can rotate text (by 90 degrees clockwise or anti-clockwise) in a table cell (Format | Text Direction…)
So create a table with two cells, make the one on the left narrow, and rotate the text in this cell. Set the row height to the height you need.

      Judy:

In addition to Hans’ suggestion, another option would be to create a text box in the body of your document and move it to the margin (Insert | Text Box), and then change the Text Direction under Format (Format | Text Direction). This will allow you to position the text in the margin where you want it.

In addition, if you’d like the text in the margin to appear on more than the first page, you could create a text box in the header, then position the text box so that it appears in the margin. Again, you can manually position the text box to you specific needs.

      Hi Judy:
There’s another way, but shoot, the search engines down. There is a command that switches the text to print top to bottom & has the name “Asian” in it. Bryan Carbonnell posted it, but I can’t find it. Maybe this will trigger someone’s memory.

Still trying to catch up after a small vacation sigh

The Add-In template is attached in post 194127

The only limit is that it will only rotate text 90 degrees clockwise.

      Dear Loungers,

Thank you to all of you. My problem is solved. i don’t know how I missed the command to Format|text orientation in a text box. I used the first suggestion, a table cell, which worked the same.

The East Asian vertical text is on the same Help menu in Word if you type “Rotate text”. In that option the letters are stacked one atop the next instead of rotating the letters. The rotate option was the one I wanted.
