Very strange. Could it be the “unprintable area” for the current printer driver? Does it work better if you change printers?

I don’t think its printer related because all our other documents work absolutely correctly and this problem is repeatable for this file, on two different machines for two different users.
I’ll give it a go though when I get back to work as, thinking about it, we’re both pointing at the same network printer grin
I think I’ll also play with changing the paper size too – it can’t hurt crossfingers

Can you try this? From the reviewing toolbar, click Show, Options, turn on balloons and set the margin to 0 then turn balloons off. Does this help?

Refer to the attached diagram. The horizontal ruler does not extend to the page width.
I’ve tried most of the tricks I know such as writing RTF, removing section breaks, cutting document to new document and still it appears short.

Normally, I expect the ruler to start at the left edge of the page as grey, become white at the left margin, become grey again at the right margin and extend to the edge of the page at the right.
This one seems to stop an inch or so short and I have no idea at all confused

I note from your Reviewing toolbar that you have markup showing. Could this simply be the space taken up by those censored balloons?

This is a great theory! Normally, once all the changes are accepted the extra white space disappears, but maybe there is one lurking somewhere in the document.

Stuart – that was the clue I needed. Revisions were not turned on – but – deep in the document lurked a single comment.

thankyou to everyone for their help – once again I really appreciate the expertise and willingness to help
