Run 3 Excel versions

I would like to have Excel 2003, 2007, and 2010 on the same laptop computer.

Can I just load the programs or do I need to separate them? If so, I do I accomplish this.

Will there be any conflicts or problems I need to be aware.

Any suggestions or ideas would be appreciated. .

Thanks RG. Sounds pretty straight forward.

I was thinking by using a partitioned hard drive I could isolate each version to avoid conflict.

Any thoughts on this?

I don’t know if you have to go that far, although it couldn’t hurt, but make sure you install each version into a separate folder, although I think MS will do this for you automatically.

I run 2002 and 2003 next to each other without problems. I used to run 97, 2000, 2002 and 2003 without noticable trouble too.
There are some quirks though. Maybe more, but I’ve only heard of these:
– I experienced problems with custom chart templates (did not work at all)
– I’ve heard people having trouble with the Help system (not for me, maybe tied to me not having 2007 on the same system)
– You can only install ONE version of Outlook
– For Word and Access, each time you start a different version, Office wants to run a lengthy installer process. This can be overcome by changing some registry entries.

Another option (but some more work) is to download the free Virtual PC from Microsoft and set up a virtual machine (VM). You need a valid Windows CD for this however, because that is what you have to install on the VM. Then you can install any Office version you like to keep “clean” on the VM.

If you use startup workbooks (Book.xlt or Personal.xls for example), I would move them from your user-specific XLSTART folder into the XLSTART folders in each version’s directory in Program Files, so that they don’t all try and use the same copy.

I’m also running 2003/2007 on the same machine – mostly things are fine, but I am getting some weird behaviours in PPT 2003.

On my laptop, I’m running Excel2003, Excel2007 and Excel2010, under Windows7.
I’ve had no problems.
I can run all three at the same time.
I can run multiple sessions of Excel, in any combination of versions.
For example, I can run two sessions of Excel2007, one of Excel2010 and one of Excel2003.

The new 2010 Office version allows you to retain earlier Office versions.
This makes things mauch simpler.

Prior to this, I used MOJOPAC (a free download, runs on windows XP) which allows you to configure a memory stick, iPhone or external drive and load your ‘own PC’ onto it.
You could in effect take your memory stick, whack it into another computer and blow me, you can see your own PC.
So I had a few of these memory sticks, each set up with different installed versions of Excel.
When I wanted to use Excel2007 on my laptop, I stuck the relevant memory stick in and used Excel2007 etc.

i checked http://www.microsoft.com, but not sure where the download is located.
I am not totally sure I understand the VM concept and would be interested in tutorial if available.

Any additional advise would be appreciated.
