GuestAugust 5, 2020 at 9:56 am #2286496Woody said; “Somebody screwed up something on Microsoft’s servers, installed a change without testing it adequately, and Edge came crashing down.”
“We reached out to our friends at Google to see if they knew of a change that could’ve affected this. After investigating, they rolled back a recent update to Google’s search service to help mitigate the crash on Edge.”

AskWoody PlusAugust 6, 2020 at 2:20 pm #2286823I’m on Win7 Sp1, bare bones for updates on Office 2010 only – If I run Check for Updates just to pull in the latest for Office 2010, Edge icon will automatically land in my Task Bar and on the Desktop? What kind of nuisance would that be and can I just ignore it without anything kicking in to activate the browser? I’m on Google Chrome and will hang onto it until they decide to pull updates for Win7 next year. I don’t want any other browser interfering with it. Seldom use the PC for Internet access, but when I do it’s my preference to have Chrome remain my standalone default browser. Side note, I have everything set on the Win7 PC according to guidance posted by Canadian Tech awhile back just before Win7 hit its EOL.

AskWoody MVPAugust 6, 2020 at 2:35 pm #2286829do you have the following reg key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\EdgeUpdate
"DoNotUpdateToEdgeWithChromium."=dword:00000001
If not, it may be an idea to add it to your registry after a registry backup, if you do not want edge chromium.Windows - commercial by definition and now function... -

AskWoody PlusAugust 7, 2020 at 2:00 am #2286911Ok, got it. I do know what you posted for the Registry key is verbatim. Had a crazy day so my mind skipped a few steps in logical sequence.
Who doesn’t have a few mind boggling episodes these days?! Again, thanks @microfix
