    PowerPoint 2007 SP2
I save a ppt as a ppsx and it works without the outline (yeah) via file mangl errrrr manager errrrrr file explod errrrr explorer, BUT when I add the ppsx as a link to a website, it displays as a ppt with the *&^%$happy text here*&^^%$ outline. I have tried to save as both 9n – 2003 and as 2007 for both files, with the same browser results, the outlline view, aaaaaarrrrrrrrrggggggggghhhhhhhh! I want my surfers to enjoy the ppt as a slide show, not forced to see the ugly stuff (or as Woody says – the ‘draconian’ do only what ms thinks you want to see – view).
I was using DW MX, now i’m using CS3 and have enjoyed the same issue with both versions, and also with IE 6 – now IE 7, and same no-work on XP PRO and Vista. I also did a save as/web /options/publish to the .htm and Of Course the outline displays with the htm file. I am not sure why I have not used this forum for this issue before now, as I started with WOPR when Chen was still here, and have received much help from all the other forums and gurus. Late is not really better …, but, please help me.

I apologize for the lack of replies. PowerPoint 2007 doesn’t appear to be very popular yet.

(I did a quick Google search but I couldn’t find anything relevant to your problem.)

It appears you are not alone, going by this thread at EggHeadCafe.

      Thanks all.
One of my server team co-workers found this article – http://www.pptfaq.com/FAQ00189.htm – and the first part is pertinent. We cannot control the many visitors and their browsers and client settings, nor do we want nor need to do so.

As the snip (pretend lt and gt angles)

PowerPoint 2007 PPTX or PPSX files on your web site
If you put PPTX/PPSX files on your site, you may not get the results you expect.

When users click on the link to the file, they may get the familiar “Open or Save” dialog box, but …

If they click Save, the browser offers to save a ZIP or some other unexpected file type
If they click Open, they get a message about not being able to open the file or get gibberish in their browser

In order for links to PPTX/PPSX files to work, two conditions must be met:

The user must have PowerPoint 2007, the 2007 Viewer or an older version of PowerPoint with the compatibility pack installed so that they can open PPTX/PPSX files in the first place
The web server configuration on your site must have the correct mediatype/MIME settings to serve PPTX/PPSX files as PowerPoint 2007 presentations.

You’ll have to contact your ISP or web administrator to change the mediatype/MIME settings. Our ISP set things up so that the web server returns this for PPTX files and it works correctly for us:

      Content-Type: application/vnd.openxmlformats-officedocument.presentationml.presentation

close snip (pretend / and lt and gt angles) BTW, will this software let us use tags as text and not as display code? The earlier software tried to use them as tags/code and not as text only. Forced some ugly code pasting workarounds lt grin gt. Is this what the ‘wrap in code tags’ button does?

I save the ppt in both pre-2007 and 2007 versions, with the same results. I am trying different combos for the syntax to work in IIS 6, which I manage, and have tried the changes at the top level and the levels below the top, where I can find the dialog option for adding the MIME type.

If you know the correct syntax, please, pls, post it here.

      TIA,
      JL

HTML tags don’t work in the Lounge, so you can use in a post without problems.

BTW, what happens if you follow the links on Test Page – Links to PowerPoint Files?

I have PowerPoint 2002 SP3 + the compatibility pack for Office 2007 file formats.
The links to .ppt, .pps and .ppsx all open in slideshow mode for me, but the .pptx opens in edit mode. The settings for .ppsx and .pptx in the File Types tab of Tools | Folder Options (from Windows Explorer) and in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT in the registry are identical, so I have no idea why .pptx opens in edit mode, or how I could force it to open in slideshow mode from a web page.

OK, in the weeds time . I work for Big Army as a webeverything. We have what are called AGMs (Army Gold Master). This is what is loaded onto every Army workstation and we generally push updates as we receive them. Whatever is configured is what we have to work with/against with NO tweakings. Thus, I can only tweak the IIS. Your response was for a client and we cannot ‘do’ clientside tweaks. I did get a screenshot of the bizarre behavior, which I will attach. Please note, in the bottom status bar, the hover shows a .pps while the center dialog box shows the file to open/save is a .pptx! I only have three files in the folder, .ppt, .pps, and .ppsx. ¿Where is the call for the .pptx originating, and it still opens the .pps (NOT the .pptx) in read-only AND in edit mode, not slideshow mode?
