    Hi,

I wonder if it is possible to save an Autotext entry without the formatting (i.e. as text-only entry)?
Problem is, when inserting an Autotext entry, there is no Paste Options context menu, as with pasting, so there is not an easy way to reformat the entry to match the surrounding text.

If an AutoText entry does not contain a paragraph mark and if its text doesn’t have specific formatting, it should take on the formatting of the place where you insert it.
If an AutoText entry contains paragraph marks, the entry uses the style and paragraph formatting stored in the paragraph marks.

In addition to Hans suggestion, whilst you will store styles with the Autotext if you have included paragraph marks in it there is a workaround which will allow you to insert the autotext without any formatting. This method is by using VBA to insert the autotext and omitting the RichText:=True switch. From memory, I think if you record a macro while inserting autotext then the code doesn’t include the RichText command anyway – and many years ago, I spent quite some time trying to work out why the macro recorder didn’t give the same result as the menu command in this respect.

Yes, I did some experimenting and found out that inline font formatting is always saved together with the Autotext entry, so to have a text-only entry one must make sure any inline font formatting is first removed. Thanks!

…and how do you do that? If I create an auto insert entry in Ariel, then whenever it is used in a different document, it’s always in Ariel. How do I remove that? Thanks,

          Sam

You can remove directly applied character formatting by selecting the text and pressing Ctrl+Spacebar before creating an AutoText entry.
If the text doesn’t contain a paragraph end, the AutoText entry will take on the font of the surrounding text when you insert it.
However, as mentioned above, if the text contains paragraph ends, the AutoText entry will include the paragraph style of the text, including the font of that paragraph style.. You’ll have to use VBA then as suggested by Andrew Lockton to create a plain text AutoText entry.

Thanks, again. I don’t know what I would do without Woody’s Lounge and you all. Sam!
